Rainbow Diamond Glass Club

The Rainbow Diamond Glass Club will meet on Monday, January 8, at 7 pm at the First Christian Church, 500 Water Street in Indiana. Our speaker will be Club President, Carol Schurman. She’ll talk to us about Pittsburgh – City of Rivers, Steel, Bridges, and GLASS! This wonderful city is known for many things, but most people do not realize that this region was a major glass producing area for much of the country during the 1800’s and early 1900’s. The first factory was built in 1797 and made windows and bottles. This presentation will explain why Pittsburgh was the center of the glass industry and will showcase some of the companies that made glass in the region. Also, beautiful examples of utilitarian and elegant glassware made here will be displayed.  Members are encouraged to bring pieces from their own collections.
