IUP Constitution Day activities

September 18, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:20 pm

Free

IUP will recognize Constitution Day with some activities throughout the day today.

The day commemorates September 17th, 1787, which was the day that the constitution was formed and signed. With it falling on a Sunday, IUP moved its celebration to today, with two free events open to the public. Starting at noon today and going until 1:20 AM will be a reading of the constitution starting with IUP Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs reading the preamble. Members of the IUP Community and students from Indiana Senior High will assist in the effort. The event will take place outside Stapleton Library. If the weather turns bad, the event will be moved to the lobby of Jane E. Leonard Hall.

The second event on the schedule is part of the Six O’Clock series and will feature Political Science Emeritus faculty Dr. David Chambers and Dr. Mac Fiddner and Department of History professor Dr. Joe Mannard portraying Ben Franklin, Charles Pickney and James Madison, respectively in a discussion titled “What Would Our Founding Fathers Say?” IUP Political Science Professor Gwen Torges said that the reenactors enjoy fielding questions from the attendees.

The Six O’clock series event will be held at the great room in Elkin Hall.
