The Indiana Art Association is offering something new—Bookbinding Workshop with instructor Beth Wheeler will be held on Mondays—April 8th, 15th and 22nd—from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at The Artists Hand Gallery/Studio.

According to IAA president Faye Kershishnik, students will learn to bind their own hardcover sketchbooks and journals step-by-step. Participants will complete at least one handmade book, learning how to sew and glue the pages, assemble a personalized cover and create custom end pages.

All necessary supplies will be provided. However, Kershishnik noted that participants may bring their own cloth, paper or other decorative items to embellish their books, if desired. Books will be 5” X 8.5” and filled with rough-edge drawing paper for a vintage look. If lined or straight-edge drawing paper, or a custom-sized book, is preferred, Kershishnik said students should note this upon registration.

The cost for the three-day workshop is $70 for IAA members/$85 for non-members. Register for this workshop at www.indianaartassociation.org and pay with PayPal.

Or, a check may be mailed with an attached note including student name(s), home address, phone number, email address and class name. Mail to Indiana Art Association, PO Box 448, Indiana, PA, 15701

Deadline to sign-up is March 26th. Class size is limited—Kershishnik encouraged those interested to reserve a spot quickly. No refunds will be issued after the deadline date.

Wheeler is an Indiana artist and recent graduate of IUP with an MFA in painting. She also holds an MA in Art History from WVU and has lived, worked and studied art in France and Italy. According to Kershishnik, Wheeler paints primarily landscapes in oils, focusing on the spirituality of nature. Wheeler recently exhibited a series of local landscapes in miniature and she enjoys experimenting with a range of other subjects and media. Wheeler is passionate about sharing her love of art with others through education for adults and children, said Kershishnik.
