The Indiana Players are seeking actors for our production of Anne of Green Gables. Due to the number of roles that we are casting, we are endeavoring to schedule auditioners for specific time-slots to maximize your audition experience.

Please fill out an online audition sheet and we will contact you to schedule a specific audition time. With one exception, we are seeking adult and child actors 10 and older.

For the character of Minnie May Barry, we are looking to cast a 7 to 9 year old. Auditions for Minnie May will be held between 5pm and 6pm on the same day as the other auditions. If your child is interested in auditioning for Minnie May, there is a separate audition form.

Character/Role Information

The following roles all speak in at least two scenes, and cannot be doubled with any other roles:
ANNE SHIRLEY (11 to 16) – a good-hearted, charming girl with a lively imagination
MATTHEW CUTHBERT (early 60s) – kindly father figure to Anne, Marilla’s brother
MARILLA CUTHBERT (mid-50s) – more stern than Matthew, but heart of gold, a mother figure to Anne
RACHEL LYNDE (mid 50s) – well-meaning, but nosey neighbor and friend of the Cuthberts
MR. PHILLIPS (20s) – a young school teacher, a bit pompous
PRISSY ANDREWS (16) – a girl in her last year of school
DIANA BARRY ( 11 to 16) – Anne’s best friend
MRS. BARRY (30-50) – Diana’s mother
MINNIE MAY BARRY (7-9) – Diana’s little sister
JOSIE PYE (11 to 16) – Anne’s schoolmate and frenemy
RUBY GILLIS (11 to 16) – Anne’s schoolmate, a sweet girl
MOODY MacPHERSON – (11 to 16) – Anne’s schoolmate, a polite, studious boy
CHARLIE SLOANE (11 to 16) – Anne’s schoolmate, mischievous and a bit stuck up
JANE ANDREWS (11 to 16) – Anne’s schoolmate, the sensible one of the group
GILBERT BLYTHE (11 to 16) – Anne’s schoolmate, nemesis, and eventual friend
MISS SUSAN STACY (mid 20s) – kind-hearted school teacher
AUNT JOSEPHINE BARRY (over 60) – Diana’s cantankerous aunt with a soft spot for Anne
MRS. ALLEN (20s/30s) – kind Bible study teacher, wife of Rev. Allen

The following roles are characters who are in one scene. They can be played by separate actors, or they can be doubled. Those decisions will be made based on auditions:

TILLIE BOULTER (about 12) – Anne’s schoolmate
JIMMY GLOVER (about 12) – Anne’s schoolmate
BESSIE WRIGHT (about 12) – Anne’s schoolmate
MARY JO (late teens) – friend of the Barry’s, French Canadian
REVEREND ALLAN (20s/30s) – kind, young clergyman
CARRIE SLOANE (about 13) – Anne’s schoolmate
PRESIDENT OF QUEEN’S ACADEMY (adult, any age) – commencement speaker (one page monologue)
MR. SADLER (adult, any age) – tactless person, trying to buy Green Gables

There are several opportunities for extras – school children, Sunday school children, graduates of Queen’s Academy, Mourners, Pall Bearers. Most are non-speaking, but there are some lines to be assigned, and there is some group singing as well.
