Artist Trading Cards Class
March 27 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Indiana Art Association (IAA) is offering an Artist Trading Cards Class on Monday, March 27, 2023 at The Artists Hand Gallery from 6:00-9:00 pm.
Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are a global phenomenon where artists, working in various media, create miniature works of art (2.5” X 3.5”). These works can then be traded with other artists around the world. All skill levels are welcome, even those new to creating art.
Students will learn what ATCs are, principals and techniques for creating them and how/where to trade and collect them.
According to IAA Programs/Classes Chair Faye Kershishnik, ATCs are affordable to create and fun to make without the pressure of creating larger, more complicated works. She added that friendships are often developed by trading locally and around the globe. There will be an opportunity to make trades at the end of the class.
Instructors are IAA members Dana Driscoll and her mother, Bonnie Driscoll. The Driscolls will share ATC examples from their private collection.
Dana Driscoll works in multiple media including watercolor, leather, mixed media and pyrography. She works primarily on whimsical and nature-based topics. Currently pursuing her Botanical Illustration Certificate through Phipps Botanical Art program, Dana is the founding member of the world’s largest artist trading card website http://www.atcsforall.com and has traded thousands of cards since 2005.
Bonnie Driscoll is a retired commercial artist. For many years, she and her husband were the owners of Earth Graphics, a Johnstown area graphic design company. A graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, she specialized in illustration, calligraphy and watercolor painting. Focusing on nature-based themes in her work, Bonnie has been trading ATCs for many years.
ATCs can be created in any media—bring your favorite to class. Instructors will also provide a variety of different media and backgrounds for students to try. Blank cards will be provided.
Cost is $30 for IAA members, $40 for non-members. Registration deadline is March 13th. Class size is limited—reserve your spot early. Register at IAA’s website www.indianaartassociation.org by selecting the Classes tab and pay with PayPal. Or, send a check to Indiana Art Association, P.O. Box 448, Indiana, PA 15701. Please include a note with name(s), address, phone, email and class name.
