Jim Rogers and Ken Holliday Folk School of the Arts and Humanities Soft Launch – Appalachian Clogging Dance Class

March 16 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Presented by the Wild Laurel Cloggers as part of the Jim Rogers and Ken Holliday Folk School of the Arts and Humanities.
The Wild Laurel Cloggers are a percussive dance group from Clarion, PA who teach and perform all over the Northern Appalachian region.
Clogging is a traditional percussive dance style that developed alongside bluegrass music in the hills and hollows of Appalachia, and its roots come from other cultural dance forms around the world that merged when different groups of people settled in Appalachia. The word “clog” comes from an old Gaelic word that means “time,” and when cloggers dance, they keep time with the music, particularly with the heel on the downbeat.
The March 16 event will begin with a brief introduction to the heritage of clogging and a performance of a few precision choreographed clogging routines, and then you’ll get a chance to learn a few steps and combinations yourself in an introductory workshop.
No dance experience is necessary and all ages are welcome. Please arrive wearing something comfy and a pair of sneakers with a flat, non-grip sole (or tap shoes, if you have them!)
This is a free event, but donations are always welcome.
