On behalf of the Indiana County Planning Commission, the Indiana County Office of Planning & Development invites the public to a meeting at which we will be presenting an overview and summary of the FINAL DRAFT of Walk, Bike, Ride, Roll!, Active Transportation Plan for Indiana County, 2022 Update. The meeting will be held at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex (KCAC) on Tuesday, April 11th from 6:00-7:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided.
The Office of Planning & Development, in cooperation with The EADS Group, Inc., Thomas R. Harley Architects, LLC., the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC), and the project Steering Committee, have developed the Indiana County Active Transportation Plan Update. This document serves as an update to the County’s current bicycle/pedestrian plan titled More People Biking & Walking More Often: Pedestrian & Bicyclist Transportation Plan for Indiana County (adopted in 2012).
Beginning in April 2022, the project team engaged the community and stakeholders through four regional public input meetings held in Indiana, Blairsville, Saltsburg, and Marion Center. A web-based comment mapping application and community survey were conducted (also made available in printed form at public input meetings). Additionally, sixteen (16) Key Person Interviews were conducted during the planning process as well as an exhaustive review of other relevant previously adopted plans.
Indiana County wishes to thank the members of the Project Steering Committee who participated in preparing this Active Transportation Plan. Steering Committee members were actively involved throughout this planning process, participating in meetings, sharing their knowledge of local conditions, and providing quality input and guidance during the Plan Update preparation. The Steering Committee assisted with identifying Active Transportation Priorities and their input and feedback was used to help formulate this Active Transportation Plan Update. Also, thank you to the elected officials, health care professionals, service providers, local/regional agency representatives, trail users, municipal leaders, residents, and other key stakeholders who participated in the public engagement meetings or were interviewed during the planning process.
The Plan development was funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Health through the State Physical Activity and Nutrition Grant and Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
We are continuing to accept and consider comments and feedback on the FINAL DRAFT, which is available for review at https://www.icopd.org/active-transportation-plan.html or in hard copy at the Office of Planning and Development.
