Indiana County Tourist Bureau Celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week May 19-25, 2024

Indiana, PA — The Indiana County Tourist Bureau (ICTB) will be celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week (NTTW), May 19 – 25, 2024. Established in 1983, NTTW is an annual tradition to mark the U.S. travel industry’s role in stimulating economic growth, cultivating vibrant communities, creating new businesses and quality job opportunities. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Powering the Economy. Connecting America”.

“Our local travel & tourism industry fuels our economy. It’s part of our everyday life and includes outdoor recreation, local restaurants, accommodations, fairs & festivals, and vibrant walkable, shoppable towns. It is a privilege to promote the many small businesses, organizations and community members who work hard to create the culture and quality of life we all enjoy. And, it’s the friendly, small-town charm that attracts many visitors to our area,” said Laura Herrington, executive director of the Indiana County Tourist Bureau.

The facts provided in the 2024 Tourism Economics report emphasize the significant impact that Indiana County’s travel & tourism industry makes on the local economy. The report, which reflects 2022 data, indicates a total annual visitor demand of $174.4 million and 2,324 local jobs supported by the industry.  Additionally, household taxes would be $880 higher without tourism related spending.

ICTB was established in 1963 as the official tourism promotion agency for Indiana County. “We appreciate the partnerships which have been created over the years and are proud to promote our members. Highlights of the week will include the debut of a new promotional piece showcasing Indiana County and special social media posts,” Herrington added.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024 the Indiana County Commissioners made a proclamation about National Travel and Tourism Week in Indiana County during their annual meeting.
