IUP’s Theater-by-the-Grove to Present New Stories, Ideas, and Voices in New Works Festival
INDIANA, PA. Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Theater-by-the-Grove has announced the upcoming New Works Festival 2024. This production will feature new stories, new voices and fresh ideas from students, faculty, staff, and alumni at Waller Hall’s Mainstage April 18 – 20 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee performance on April 21 at 2:00 p.m.
A harried senior home worker deals with the failing memories of two lively residents. Two park sanitation workers dream of something a little different. And 400 years in the future, a group of space miners has to find the saboteur among them. These are the worlds and lives that Theatre-by-the-Grove’s latest new works festival offers audiences from April 18-21. The plays come from the imaginations and creativity of a student who just graduated last December, a current student, and a not-so-young professor revisiting and revising a play he first wrote in college as part of the Theatre, Dance, and Performance department’s continuing support of new and student work.
The plays are “Stop Me If You’ve Heard This” by current student Justin Long, directed by student Quintin Michalski; “Herders,” by theatre professor Michael Schwartz, directed by guest artist Sam Sherburne; and “New on the Job” by recent graduate Calvin Fryling and directed by Michael Schwartz.
Advance tickets can be purchased either online at iup.edu/livelyarts or by phone. Patrons who have questions or wish to purchase tickets by phone may call the Lively Arts office at 724-357-2787, Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for assistance. There are no advance in-person ticket sales before the show. However, any remaining tickets may be purchased in person one hour before the show at the door.
This production is produced by the IUP’s Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance and the College of Arts and Humanities. It is funded, in part, by the IUP Student Cooperative Association. The Lively Arts, a program of the College of Arts and Humanities, presents nearly 200 performances, programs, and exhibits annually.
