IUP’s Theater-by-the-Grove Presents Comedy Mystery
“The 39 Steps, Abridged” Based on Hitchcock Movie

INDIANA, PA.  Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Theater-by-the-Grove will be presenting “The 39 Steps, Abridged,” a comedy mystery adapted for the stage by Patrick Barlow.  This abridged one hour production will be presented at Waller Hall’s Mainstage February 28 – March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee performance on March 3 at 2:00 p.m.

“The 39 Steps, Abridged” is a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theater. This two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs with dozens of zany characters racing across the British Isles.

With trains, planes, and automobiles, can our dashing hero solve the mystery of The 39 Steps—and still find time for a little romance?

The artistic team for this production includes Carrie J. Cole, director; Brian Jones, scenic and lighting designer; Nancy Pipkin-Hutchinson, costume designer; and Brenna Arbogast will serve as sound designer as a part of her senior thesis.

When asked to share her thoughts on this production, the director Carrie J Cole shared, “Working with this ensemble on such a zany fast-paced show has been a dream. Every night, they have me laughing and engaged with the many characters they create. I can’t wait to share the fun with the audience.”

Advance tickets can be purchased either online at iup.edu/livelyarts or by phone. Patrons who have questions or wish to purchase tickets by phone may call the Lively Arts office at 724-357-2787, Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for assistance. There are no advance in-person ticket sales before the show.  However, any remaining tickets may be purchased in person one hour before the show at the door.

This production is produced by the IUP’s Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance and the College of Arts and Humanities. It is funded, in part, by the IUP Student Cooperative Association. The Lively Arts, a program of the College of Arts and Humanities, presents nearly 200 performances, programs, and exhibits annually.
