FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Indiana County Decathlon kicks off with a Hot Chocolate Walk on February 3rd

INDIANA COUNTY, PA – Mark your calendars! The Indiana County Decathlon is back for its eighth year, and this year’s program is packed with activities designed to help you get active and explore the beauty, culture, and history of Indiana County!

This program kicks off with the Hot Chocolate Walk on Saturday, February 3rd at 10am. This event is the perfect way to start the Decathlon and embrace the winter weather. So grab your friends and family, lace up your walking shoes, and join us for a hot cup of cocoa, a leisurely stroll along the ADA accessible path, and around Blue Spruce Park, starting at pavilion number one.

This series of free walking events takes place February through May, with something for everyone – from easy walks or rolls on paved paths to moderate walks on trails. If you prefer to explore at your own pace, we also have several self-led walking tours available.

Share your Decathlon adventures with us on Facebook! Just post photos of your participation using the hashtag #ICDecathlon2024 by May 24th and you’ll be entered into a raffle for a chance to win some great prizes. You can also register for the raffle using our event sign-in sheet; the more you participate, the higher your chances of winning!
The Indiana County Decathlon is an annual program that promotes physical activity and healthy living during the winter and spring months. It is a great way to stay active, get some fresh air, and enjoy the outdoors. The program is coordinated by a dedicated team of volunteers, in partnership with the PA WalkWorks program, the YMCA of Indiana County, Indiana County Parks & Trails, Friends of the Parks, the Indiana County Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ICATAC), Aging Services Inc., and the Indiana County Office of Planning & Development.

WalkWorks strengthens our community by weaving a network of accessible walking paths, created with locals in mind. These routes make embracing the health benefits of walking easier than ever. Currently, there are eight WalkWorks walking routes in Indiana County, located in Blairsville, Ernest, Glen Campbell, Homer City, White Township, Indiana Borough, Clymer Borough, and Saltsburg Borough.

We hope you will join us for the 8th Annual Indiana County Decathlon! It is a great way to get active, have some fun, and explore the beauty of our community.

You can find a complete list of Decathlon events and download self-guided walking flyers by visiting our website, icopd.org, and clicking on the Decathlon logo. We also post flyers and event updates on our Facebook page, “Indiana County Walking Decathlon,” so be sure to follow us there for the latest information.
