The Allenwood – An IUP Student-Run Restaurant – Opens for Fall Semester

 

Jeffrey M. Santicola shared the following information about the Allenwood:
Students enrolled in the Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism, and Event Management program participate in this unique hands-on learning laboratory. Students learn how to manage and operate a food and beverage facility. Each week students prepare a different themed lunch buffet menu. Lunch includes a rotating soup and dessert special. Students in the dinner lab prepare a different themed 3-course meal throughout the semester. The signature NY Strip is always available for dinner. The Allenwood opens in the 4th week of every semester and serves until finals week each fall and spring semester.

 Dinner is served Thursday Evening from 6:00pm to 7:30pm*

 The Allenwood is located at 911 South Drive on the ground floor of Ackerman Hall on Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s campus.

Dr. Stephen B. Shiring shared history about the Allenwood:
The Allenwood Student-run Restaurant, training students in operations since the early 1970’s, is named in honor of the late Allen Woods, professor emeritus and former chairman of the Department of Hospitality Management. The Allenwood is an integral component  of the Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism, and Event Management Program student curriculum, housed in the Department of Management, in the Eberly College of Business, and is home to the Isabella Wilkinson Green dining room.

  • Was recognized for its excellence in hospitality management education, ranked number nine of 50 on the list of “2021 Best Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management” in the United States by Study.com in the nation and first in Pennsylvania.
