Indiana County Tourist Bureau Moves Travel Forward
This National Travel and Tourism Week May 7-13, 2023

Indiana, PA — The Indiana County Tourist Bureau (ICTB) is celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week (NTTW), May 7 – 13, 2023. Established in 1983, NTTW is an annual tradition to mark the U.S. travel industry’s role in stimulating economic growth, cultivating vibrant communities, creating quality job opportunities, stimulating business activity, and elevating the quality of life for everyday Americans. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Travel Forward”. The Indiana County Commissioners acknowledged the importance of this week by issuing a proclamation on May 10, 2023.

“Our travel & tourism industry fuels our local economy. It’s part of our everyday life and includes outdoor recreation, local restaurants, accommodations, fairs & festivals, and vibrant walkable, shoppable towns. It’s our friends and community members in the travel & tourism industry who continue to demonstrate resiliency and hard work, creating the culture and quality of life we all enjoy. And, it’s the friendly, small-town charm that attracts and appeals to visitors who also contribute to our local economy,” said Laura Herrington, executive director of the Indiana County Tourist Bureau.

The 2023 Tourism Economics report reiterates the importance of the travel & tourism industry to Indiana County’s economy. The report indicates a total of $148.8 million in visitor spending and 2,166 local jobs supported by the industry. Additionally, household taxes would be $802 higher without tourism related spending.

ICTB was established in 1963 as the official tourism promotion agency for Indiana County and is proud to be celebrating 60 years of promoting Indiana County. “We are thankful for our many travel & tourism members that we’ve had through the years. We appreciate these partnerships and are excited to see what the future holds as we “Travel Forward,” Herrington added.
