The Strongstown Homecoming and Historical
Society is looking for some very- special people to
join our "PrinciPAL" program.
The purpose of the program is to divide the yearly expenses for the basic upkeep of our one room
schoolhouse into 12 equal amounts. Each "PrinciPAL's" donation will cover the expenses for one
month. Your participation in this program will allow the members of the society to focus on the
business of fund raising and obtaining grants to start the restoration process of our wonderful little
schoolhouse.
The school bells are ringing and we want ours to join in the chorus in the near
future. We have the original school bell and are planning to use it to celebrate the
accomplishment of the three R's... restoring, refurnishing and re-opening of this
local treasure for all to enjoy. To have a Civil War era school building in our
community is a blessing and our goal is to share this good fortune with everyone.
Each month's donation (tax deductible) for the 2010 year will be $100.00. This is
a perfect way to honor a loved one or to promote a business or individual interest
in the community. Each "PrinciPAL" will be listed in a ledger that will be
prominently displayed in the schoolhouse.
The Derry Area Historical Society has successfully used this type of program.
They have restored a number of historical sites including the Atlantic #40, one
room schoolhouse. You can view a picture of their project at
www.derryhistory.orq.
We need your help. Please contact either the Strongstown Homecoming and
Historical Society president,
Butch Rodkey at 814-749-9771, (email contact) carpost@comcast.net or call
Society Secretary Charlene Strong at 724-694-2881 and let them know you want
to be a "PrinciPAL".
Sincerely,
The Strongstown Homecoming & Historical Society
