2010 RIVER SOJOURN JUNE 3 – 6 This trip is an excellent outing for heritage and eco-travelers. The course follows the Kiski-Conemaugh rivers between Johns-town and Avonmore, in southwestern PA. The trip features remnants of the PA Main Line Canal, stone arch rail road bridges that now host the West Penn Trail and stops in historic towns. Hundreds of custom cars, muscle cars, street rods, drag cars, hot rods, antiques, new cars, motorcycles and trucks will be cruising Downtown Indiana's Philadelphia Street for a summer car cruise event June 5th from 3pm to 7pm. JIMMY STEWART MUSEUM TO HOST 2010 FOUNDERS TOUR WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA REGION ANTIQUE AUTOMOBILE CLUB MONDAY JUNE 7TH 2010 The Jimmy Stewart Museum is pleased to announce that they have been included on the 2010 Western Pennsylvania AACA Founders Tour itinerary. The Founders Tour runs from June 6th through June 11th and the tour will be passing through Indiana on Monday June 7th, between, roughly 10 am and 1 pm. It is anticipated that 200 antique cars and 300 guests will pass through Indiana on June 7th. Special parking arrangements are in the planning to permit local residents to take advantage of this exciting event. As the tour is scheduled for arrival during mid day, tour organizers expect participants to visit our downtown and its shop and eateries. Other communities laying out the welcome mat include Butler, Greensburg, Pittsburgh, Uniontown and Somerset. Pennsylvania recently won the National Award for excellence in state parks. There is only one park system in the U.S. to win this award, which is held by the winning state for 2 years. This is the first time that Pennsylvania has won. The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation has scheduled a press event tour to present the Gold Medal at individual parks. The Gold Medal is scheduled to arrive at Yellow Creek on June 8th at 2:30 PM. We hope those who can attend this once in a lifetime event, will do so.

THE JIMMY STEWART AIRPORT/MUSEUM FESTIVAL 2010 For the second year, the Jimmy Stewart Airport and the Jimmy Stewart Museum will partner for their annual summer festival. The event is scheduled for Saturday June 12th and Sunday June 13th. Festivities will take place at both sites on Saturday the 12th with the airport repeating its Saturday schedule on Sunday with the exception of the Hanger Dance, which is Saturday evening only. Events at the Museum on Sunday are limited to showing of the special matinee at 2pm. The locations are The Jimmy Stewart Airport 398 Airport Road off of Route 286 east of Indiana; and the Jimmy Stewart Museum and Indiana Courthouse Plaza at 835 Philadelphia Street in downtown Indiana. Free Trolley service will be provided between the sites on the half hour courtesy of The Indiana County Tourist Bureau Saturday’s schedule for the Jimmy Stewart Airport begins at 9 am and runs to 5pm: 8 am to 1 pm: Pancake Breakfast hosted by Civil Air Patrol 714 – ALL You Can EAT! At 10:30 the Museum welcomes from Mr. Roger’s neighborhood, Mr. McFeely and a showing of his new movie “Speedy Delivery.” The movie and introduction by Mr. McFeely is limited to the theatre capacity of 50; children are admitted free and parents are admitted at a reduced museum rate of $5. From 11 am to 1:30 pm the theatre will have a continuous showing of Jimmy Stewart in the US Air Force promotional film “Winning Your Wings.” Reduced Museum admission of $5. All day. At 12 noon free outdoor activities begin at the Museum entrance and on the Courthouse Lawn. Guests are invited to bring a picnic lunch and picnic on the courthouse lawn or visit “Hot Dog John” and enjoy the entertainment. At noon the Indiana County Singers will present a selection of songs and will be followed at 12:30 by the sounds of the Sweet Adeline’s. At 1 pm Mr. McFeely will take the stage at the courthouse with stories and photo opportunities. Beginning at 1 as well The Amazing Master Magicians “ Michaelangelo and Strolling Joe Kelly” will delight the crowd with feats of prestidigitation. All outdoor events are subject to weather. A covered bridge safari to Indiana County's four covered bridges will be held on Saturday, June 26th beginning at 1:30 p.m. The caravan will leave from the main parking lots of Blue Spruce Park and travel to Kintersburg, Harmon, Trusal and Thomas Covered Bridges. At each stop, a tour guide will offer background information about the county's covered bridges. The caravan route will travel approximately 25 miles and the safari will conclude by 4:30 p.m. at the Thomas Covered Bridge near Yarnick's Farm Market. At the Harmon Covered Bridge a special event will be held at 2:30 p.m. to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Harmon Bridge. Birthday cake, ice cream and refreshments will be provided. Covered bridge memorabilia will also be available for sale. Members of the Indiana County Covered Bridge committee will be on hand to welcome the caravan and the general public. Harmon Bridge was constructed in 1910 and is named for J.S. Harmon, a nearby farmer and Civil War veteran who survived imprisonment at Andersonville, Georgia. It is Indiana County's youngest covered bridge. The bridge is located in scenic farm country along the banks of the South Branch of Plum Creek in Washington Township. The SMART Angler Program is designed to provide instruction to youth between the ages of 8 and 12 on the types of fish found in Pennsylvania, fish habitats, safety, equipment, outdoor manners and protecting our water resources. Parents, guardians, mentors and other family members are encouraged to participate in SMART fishing clinics. Each participant learns basic fishing skills and gets to put those skills to use! All the participants in the fishing program focus on being “SMART” anglers.
